Hull’s Cultural Vanguard Storms Westminster

LONDON – In a bold move to reignite its cultural and heritage ambitions, a 30-strong delegation from Hull’s vibrant arts scene descended upon Westminster today. The event, hosted in the Jubilee Room and sponsored by Hull East MP Karl Turner, aimed to showcase Hull’s vision as a leader in community-driven culture.

Representatives from heavyweight organisations—including Warner Bros, Arts Council England, Sport England, and VisitBritain—gathered to hear Hull’s pitch. The highlight was the unveiling of the city’s new Culture and Heritage Strategy, set for formal launch at the upcoming Cultural Tides conference in Hull next month.

Councillor Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council, emphasized the city’s readiness to collaborate on a national and international scale: “We’ve demonstrated our potential during UK City of Culture 2017 and are eager to build upon that success.”

The delegation, traveling courtesy of Hull Trains, featured notable speakers such as Darren Henley, Chief Executive of Arts Council England; local musician Chiedu Oraka; and Hull’s Young Mayor, Eunice Jogunosinmi. Councillor Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure, added: “This is a pivotal moment to reignite partnerships and reaffirm Hull’s status as a cultural trailblazer.”

As Hull steps boldly onto the national stage, the message is clear: the city is not just ready to participate but to lead in the UK’s cultural renaissance.
