Nordic Walking Workshop at East Riding Leisure Beverley
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is working with Fitmums and Friends to host an introductory Nordic Walking workshop for those living with Parkinson’s and related conditions.
The free one-hour workshop will be held at East Riding Leisure Beverley in Flemingate on Thursday, 28 April at 11.30am.
Nordic walking is recognised as excellent exercise for people with Parkinson’s , and can help control symptoms and maintain fitness. It works the upper body and lower body simultaneously, and improves strength, posture, stride and stability.
Laura Hutchinson, healthy lifestyles development officer, explained : “Attending this free workshop could be a real boost for a person’s health and wellbeing, and of course will also be a great social opportunity as well.”
One of the attendees of Nordic Walking, Richard, said : “ I joined a Nordic Walking group as a way to get regular exercise and meet people for a social chat.
“However, I’ve found the benefits are much greater than that. The Nordic technique has helped me with posture, stamina and balance, as well as a list of lesser issues.
“The sessions are well organised, and the tutors are very supportive and professional in their approach, which helps a lot if you are having a bad day!
I highly recommend it.”
Those who attend the free workshop can get another two free sessions. Partners are also welcome to attend.
