Cottingham Shooting – latest

COTTINGHAM – A 68-year-old man has been arrested after shots were fired at a car in Cottingham on Wednesday night (12 February).

Police received a call at around 9:10pm reporting that a car carrying five occupants, aged between 16 and 21, had stopped on Westfield Road to check directions when a man emerged from a property and allegedly fired at the vehicle.

Detective Chief Inspector Ben Robinson, leading the investigation, confirmed that the car’s occupants sought safety nearby before armed officers arrived. Upon their arrival, further shots were reportedly heard. Fortunately, no one was injured.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody. Officers are conducting searches to determine what weapon was involved and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“We completely understand that an incident of this nature will cause concern for local residents,” said DCI Robinson. “Our neighbourhood policing team will be out and about in the area providing reassurance. If you have any concerns, please speak to them.”

Road closures remain in place on Westfield Road between Beverley Road and Riplingham Road while enquiries continue.

Police are urging anyone with information, dashcam footage, or CCTV from the area at the time of the incident to contact them on the non-emergency 101 number, quoting log 503 of 12 February.
