East Riding Libraries hide 270 books around the county for World Book Night

From tonight,  Wednesday, 23 April, books will be hidden in locations across the East Riding, by staff from East Riding Libraries.

East Riding Libraries, managed by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, are encouraging people to participate in World Book Night.

World Book Night is a national event that aims to encourage adults to start reading and celebrate the impact of books on people’s lives.

East Riding libraries will provide hints about the locations of hidden books, on their social media channels. Residents who find books are asked to post about it on social media with the hashtag, #ERLFoundBook. This is the second year that East Riding libraries have run the event, with residents in 2024 finding 270 books in locations from Goole to Bridlington.

Hayley Nicholson, librarian, said: “We’re so excited to be bringing the joy of reading to the whole East Riding once again, especially after how much people enjoyed the search for our stories last year.

“Stories are such a worthwhile thing to share, and we can’t wait to see all the lucky people who find our hidden books We want people to interact with others in their community too, so once you’ve read your found book, you can pass it on to a friend, family member, or even a complete stranger”

World Book Night starts on Wednesday, 23 April and the hidden books will be around the East Riding for as long as it takes people to find them all.

Hints about the hidden books can be found on East Riding Libraries social media channels, @ERLibraries on Facebook, and @eastridinglibraries on Instagram.
