Hull & East Riding Mayoral Election: When Will We Know the Result?

EAST RIDING – Voters across Hull and East Yorkshire went to the polls today, Thursday, May 1, 2025, to choose the first-ever directly elected mayor for the region—a major step in the devolution process that has created the Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority (HEYCA).

When Will We Know the Result?

The counting of votes will begin at 9:00 AM on Friday, May 2, with results expected later that same day. Counts will take place at Hull’s Guildhall and East Riding Leisure Haltemprice, with the final declaration anticipated from the Haltemprice site.

This timing is in line with the broader 2025 local election results across England, which will be revealed throughout Friday.

Why This Election Matters

The newly elected mayor will hold significant power over areas such as transport, housing, adult education, and economic growth. The role comes with control of a £13.3 million annual investment fund as part of the devolution deal signed with central government.

  • Anne Handley (Conservative) – Leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council
