HULL – Councillors representing residents on the North Carr Ward in Hull met with the Humberside Police & Crime Commissioner Jonathan Evison on Saturday to discuss funding to support local activities for young people.
Labour Councillor Paul Harper invited the Commissioner to walk around the North Carr Ward last weekend and to meet local community groups working to engage with young people and combat anti-social behaviour on the ward.
Mr Evison met representatives from ‘Bransholme Bears Rugby Club’, ‘Kingswood AFC’ and ‘The Paul Ingle Boxing Academy’, as well as ‘R-evolution’ who hope to build a presence on the ward in the near future to promote cycling.
“He was good enough to spend a few hours with us, to look at areas of the ward and to meet people who are working hard to give something to local people that will be a positive experience.”
Councillor Paul Harper, Labour ward councillor said:
“When I first said that I wanted to invite the PCC to see the ward and to talk about how he could help us and local groups to engage with local young people, I was worried that he may be too busy to do so, but he accepted and came.
“He was good enough to spend a few hours with us, to look at areas of the ward and to meet people who are working hard to give something to local people that will be a positive experience.”
Fellow Labour Councillor Anita Harrison added:
“The PCC has money to fight the causes of crime and anti-social behaviour, and he listened to what was needed to improve things here on North Carr, such as a fence around the pitch that Bransholme Bears play on.
“It was a really useful meeting, and we want to thank the PCC for spending his time with us.
“Hopefully, some PCC funding will now help our local groups and clubs engage even better and continue the fantastic work they do here”.
