As a website that provides a lot of food content it was only a matter of time before we profiled Masterchef Champion, the wonderful Eddie Scott, pride of Beverley.
Eddie, who overcame fierce competition from 44 other chefs to be crowned MasterChef champion is now working in residence at the legendary Pipe & Glass South Dalton.
Upon his momentous win in May this year Masterchef host Greg Wallace said Eddie was “born to cook’. This is literally true for Eddie, who’s first memories were spent in the Kitchen in the small village in Northamptonshire where he grew up.
He describes on his website that his childhood summer holidays where spent touring around and camping in France where he was astounded by the range of foods and ingredients on display. “My parents loved French food and they passed that on to me” says Eddie in a video on his Instagram page.
Eddie’s parents where indeed passionate about food. His mother in particular was also a great baker and keen to share her love for creating wonderful cakes.
Eddie’s grandparents hail from Punjab in India adding a whole different world of culinary influence that inspires Eddie’s work still today. Eddie recalls his grandmother cooking up all kinds of authentic Indian food for the rest of the family.
Given his surroundings, its unsurprising that Eddie spent his teenage years teaching himself classic French dishes like Sole à La Meunière to Île Flottante and now blends an array of culinary traditions to create the unique dishes that have seen him rise to the to the level of a professional chef. Visiting his family home as a dinner guest must have been quite an experience.
Eddie began his working life in the Merchant navy piloting ships all over the world. After six years and still at the age of 26 he landed his dream job piloting ships up and down the Humber.
In his spare time, Eddie would be in the kitchen where he says “you get the best out of me” and confesses to watching Masterchef every year telling himself to apply and challenge himself to do what he truly loved.

Eddie Scott
Reflecting on his victory Eddie told The Yorkshire Post “I think every amateur cook secretly dreams of having the chance to go onto a show like Masterchef.
“Starting off in the competition, I was very relaxed about the whole experience, I just wanted to enjoy this amazing time and have fun cooking my food for John and Gregg. But the longer you stay, and the closer you get to the final week, the more you want to win.
“The stakes get so much higher. Every cook dreams of standing in front John and Gregg whilst they critique your food. It’s so nerve-wracking, because you really start to question if you absolutely did your best.
“But then comes huge rush of adrenaline when Gregg declares his love for you or John says ‘boom’. I feel like all the hard work has paid off getting through to the finals and a huge amount of relief and disbelief that this is actually happening. It’s the most exciting time ever.”
The Future
There is no doubt that Beverley is an important food town and Eddie’s success has only helped this further. Especially now his work can be sampled locally. In June Eddie announced he would be joining Michelin Star chef James Mackenzie at the Pipe & Glass in South Dalton.
Writing on his Instagram account he said “I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to work with a team of amazing chefs, in a restaurant that I’ve always loved eating at, and in such a beautiful setting. It couldn’t be better,”
We at The Beverley Review will be heading up to the Pipe & Glass soon to check out the incredible culinary offering that Eddie is now part of. You can also book online.
Eddie’s story has just begun, but already Beverley is proud if its famous culinary son.
