Swedish homeware giant IKEA is planning to open a new concept store in Hull, bringing a fresh approach to furniture shopping at Kingston Retail Park. The company has submitted plans to Hull City Council for a Plan & Order Point (POP) store – a smaller, consultation-led format designed to help customers plan and purchase fitted kitchens and bedroom furniture with expert guidance.
Unlike IKEA’s traditional warehouse-style stores, this new concept won’t have a full showroom or self-serve aisles. Instead, shoppers will be able to explore samples, materials and finishes, and work with specialists to design their ideal space before placing orders for home delivery.
The proposed location is a vacant retail unit previously occupied by Jack’s supermarket, which has stood empty for nearly three years. If approved, IKEA plans to refurbish the site with its signature blue-and-yellow branding, adding a bold new presence to the area.
Hull would join a growing list of UK cities adopting IKEA’s streamlined shopping experience, which prioritises expert advice and convenience over in-store browsing. For local shoppers looking to refresh their homes, this could be a welcome addition – offering professional design support without the need to travel to a full-size IKEA store.
