Hull Labour Nominates Tommy Coyle and Neil Hudgell for Freedom of the City

HULL – Two of Hull’s most respected public figures have been nominated for one of the city’s highest civic honours. Labour Chair Councillor Shane McMurray has put forward former professional boxer and community champion Tommy Coyle for the Freedom of the City of Hull. In a separate nomination, Labour Group Leader Councillor Daren Hale has nominated leading solicitor and philanthropist Neil Hudgell in recognition of his major contributions to justice, sport, charity and the wider life of the city.

“These nominations celebrate two individuals who represent the best of Hull, commitment to community, achievement, and giving back,” said Councillor McMurray.

Councillor Hale added, “Tommy’s work with young people and Neil’s dedication to justice and regeneration have both had a lasting impact on our city.”

Both nominations have now passed through the Civic Committee and will go before Full Council on Thursday for final approval. If approved, the two men will be awarded the Freedom of the City a rarely granted honour that formally recognises individuals who have given exceptional service to Hull and its communities. These are not ceremonial nominations. They reflect a deep appreciation for two men whose work one through sport and youth engagement, the other through legal justice and regeneration continues to shape Hull’s identity and future for the better.
