Pipe and Glass chef takes dream toasties to London for charity

LONDON – Yorkshire is on the menu in the capital this September. James Mackenzie, chef of the Michelin-starred Pipe and Glass Inn in South Dalton, has joined The Wigmore’s prestigious Toastie Takeover, serving up a dish that blends comfort food with community spirit.

James’s creation, salt beef brisket, Yorkshire Blue cheese, rhubarb pickle, watercress and pickled red onion, is available throughout the month at The Wigmore inside The Langham hotel. Priced at £15, £1 from every toastie goes to The Burnt Chef Project, a charity supporting mental health in hospitality.

The Pipe and Glass, which James runs with his wife Kate, has held a Michelin star since 2010 and is as well-known for its commitment to community and good causes as it is for its food. Over the years they’ve raised funds for the local village hall, supported schools, and nurtured young chefs through the Golden Apron competition with the Yorkshire Wolds Cookery School.

This latest venture shows how East Yorkshire flavour and values can shine on a London stage.
