East Riding walks named among Yorkshire’s most peaceful routes in new report

DANES DYKE – Walking routes in the East Riding have been named among Yorkshire’s most peaceful places to explore in a new study looking at quieter alternatives to the county’s busiest beauty spots.

Research by Yorkshire clothing brand Rydale Clothing highlighted a series of highly rated walks across the county where visitors can enjoy scenery, coastline and countryside without the crowds often associated with more famous tourist destinations.

Among the East Riding routes recognised was the woodland and coastal trail at Danes Dyke near Flamborough, which emerged as the region’s top ranked peaceful walk with a rating of 4.8 out of 5.

The route combines cliffside coastal views, woodland paths and access to the bay below, and was described in the study as one of Yorkshire’s best rated easy walks.

The wider report examined walking routes across North, South, West and East Yorkshire, using data from popular hiking apps and user reviews to identify routes frequently described as “quiet” or “not crowded”.

Researchers analysed 32 walking routes and more than 7,500 reviews before ranking each area’s standout peaceful locations using factors including ratings, route difficulty, elevation and accessibility.

The study found that every part of Yorkshire offered quieter alternatives to some of the county’s more heavily visited walking destinations.

North Yorkshire’s highest ranked route was the Halton Gill and Hesleden Circular in Littondale, while the Clough Hole and Hebden Water Circular near Hebden Bridge achieved the highest overall score anywhere in the study with 4.9 out of 5.

Laura Forsyth, communications executive at Rydale, said many walkers were increasingly seeking quieter outdoor spaces.

She said: “Yorkshire is home to some of the country’s most famous walking destinations, but many of the best known spots can become especially busy during peak times.

“Our findings show there are still fantastic quieter routes right across the county, whether walkers want dales scenery, coastal views, calming reservoirs, or woodland trails.”
