BEVERLEY – Artists from Beverley and across Yorkshire are being invited to submit their work for the 25th annual Beverley Art Gallery Open Art Exhibition.
Registration is now open ahead of the first artwork hand-in days next week, with the gallery encouraging artists to register in advance rather than waiting until they arrive with their work.
The annual exhibition has become an established part of Beverley’s cultural calendar, giving artists from across Yorkshire and the Humber an opportunity to have their work selected for display at Beverley Art Gallery in the Champney Treasure House.
Around 100 works will ultimately be chosen for this year’s exhibition, which opens on Saturday 26 September and runs until 17 December.
Entries can be in any artistic medium, with each artist permitted to submit one original work that has not previously appeared in one of the gallery’s Open Art exhibitions.
There is a £5 non-refundable entry fee, although entry is free for artists aged 25 and under.
Artists can register online before taking their work to the gallery. Anyone who needs help with the online process can also register with assistance from staff at the museum desk on the first floor of the Champney Treasure House.
Once registered, artists receive two labels which must be attached to their work before it is submitted.
Six hand-in days have been arranged.
Thursday 3 September: 10am–12pm and 2pm–4pm
Friday 4 September: 10am–12pm and 2pm–4pm
Saturday 5 September: 9.30am–11.30am and 1pm–3pm
Thursday 10 September: 10am–12pm and 2pm–4pm
Friday 11 September: 10am–12pm and 2pm–4pm
Saturday 12 September: 9.30am–11.30am and 1pm–3pm
Someone else can deliver an artwork on an artist’s behalf if they are unable to attend on those dates.
This year’s entries will be considered by two independent guest selectors, art curator and researcher Gill Crawshaw and award-winning photographer Andrew Quinn.
Approximately 100 works will be selected for the final exhibition, with prizes supported by the Friends of Beverley Art Gallery recognising outstanding entries.
Artists will be told by email whether their work has been selected. Everyone submitting work, whether ultimately chosen for display or not, is invited to the exhibition opening between 1pm and 3pm on Saturday 26 September.
Visitors will then be able to see the selected works at Beverley Art Gallery until 17 December. Entry to the exhibition is free and many of the original artworks will also be available to buy.
Artists considering entering are being encouraged by Beverley Art Gallery to register before the hand-in dates and to read the full entry conditions carefully.
The deadline is now approaching, so anyone in Beverley with a painting, photograph, sculpture or other original work they have been considering putting before an audience has a rather good opportunity to get it onto the walls of their local gallery.
