WOLD NEWTON – A Yorkshire Wolds brewery is bringing a taste of Bavaria back to East Yorkshire this September, with beer, German-inspired food and live Oompah music on the menu.
Wold Top Brewery will hold its fifth Oktoberfest on Saturday 26 September at its brewery at Hunmanby Grange, near Filey.
The event has grown into a regular fixture in the brewery’s calendar following sell-out events in previous years, with this year’s festival running from 3pm until 11pm.
At the centre of it will be a beer brewed specifically for the occasion by Wold Top’s own brewers.
Food will come from Nabs Nosh, which will be serving German food with a Yorkshire twist, while an Oompah band will provide a suitably Bavarian soundtrack to the afternoon and evening.
Visitors are also being encouraged to dress for the occasion, although lederhosen remain mercifully optional.
Wold Top managing director Kate Balchin said the response to last year’s event persuaded the brewery to bring Oktoberfest back for a fifth time.
“We had such good feedback from last year’s event and our brewers were excited to have another opportunity to brew a special Oktoberfest beer that we’re repeating our German beer festival with a Yorkshire twist.
“We’re all really excited for what will be a fabulous, fun-filled afternoon and evening. Fancy dress is optional, but very much encouraged!”
Tickets cost £18 per person and include either a pint of beer or a soft drink.
For anyone who would rather not contemplate the journey home after eight hours at a brewery, camping is also available.
Basic pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes cost £12 per pitch, with the brewery promising fairly spectacular Yorkshire Wolds surroundings even if the accommodation itself is deliberately simple.
The setting is a significant part of Wold Top’s story.
The independent brewery was established in 2003 on the Mellor family’s farm at Hunmanby Grange and produces its beer using barley grown on the farm and water drawn from its own borehole.
Its range of cask, keg and bottled beers is now sold across Yorkshire and further afield.
The brewery’s Oktoberfest takes that very Yorkshire operation and gives it a German makeover for one Saturday in September.
Wold Top Brewery’s fifth Oktoberfest takes place from 3pm to 11pm on Saturday 26 September. Tickets cost £18 including a pint or soft drink, with camping, caravan and motorhome pitches available for £12.
Tickets can be booked online or by calling Wold Top Brewery on 01723 892222.
