COUNTY HALL – A £600,000 programme of road improvements will begin across Beverley next week, with resurfacing work taking place at seven locations over the next nine weeks.
East Riding Council says the scheme will include road resurfacing, kerb repairs and minor footpath improvements. Most of the work has been scheduled for the evenings to reduce disruption, although some daytime closures will be needed.
The programme is due to start on Monday 3 August, subject to the weather, and is expected to finish towards the end of September.
The works will take place at New Walkergate, between Norwood and Morton Lane, and Sow Hill Road, between Ladygate and New Walkergate, from 3 August for around two weeks.
Work will then move to Champney Road, between Lairgate and Cross Street, from 14 August for around one week.
Grovehill Road and Railway Street, between New Walkergate and the railway level crossing, will be resurfaced from 19 August for around two weeks.
Sample Avenue is scheduled for improvements from 1 September for around four weeks, while the programme is expected to conclude on York Road, between Severn Corners Lane and North Bar Without, from 23 September for around one week.
The works will require temporary road closures, with signed diversion routes in place.
During the New Walkergate and Sow Hill Road improvements, roads will be closed between 7pm and midnight, Monday to Friday. Beverley Bus Station will also close during these evening works, with buses using alternative stops on Manor Road.
For the remaining locations, closures will generally be between 6pm and 11pm, Monday to Friday.
The exception is Sample Avenue, where resurfacing will take place during the day between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
East Riding Council says the investment is designed to improve the condition of some of Beverley’s busiest roads and extend their lifespan before more extensive repairs become necessary.
Although motorists should expect some disruption while the work is underway, the majority of the programme has been scheduled outside peak daytime traffic to help minimise delays.
